December 7, 2015

Chief Justice Bill Waller Jr. today congratulated Justice David A. Chandler on his appointment as executive director of the Division of Family and Children’s Services and thanked him for his 15 years of service as an appellate judge.

“Justice Chandler has been a valuable member of the court. He is a scholarly jurist who has provided meticulous analysis of complicated legal issues. His many years of judicial experience and extensive background in the field of education will serve the state well in his new position,” Chief Justice Waller said.

Justice Chandler served for eight years on the Mississippi Court of Appeals and almost seven years on the Supreme Court. He joined the high court in January 2009.

Justice Chandler spent the first 20 years of his career in education. For about 10 years, he served as a teacher, counselor, school psychometrist and administrator with Choctaw County public schools. He later served as a research and curriculum specialist at Mississippi State University, where he directed the development of curriculum material for secondary and post-secondary work force training programs. His work was designed to provide a more skilled work force in order to attract business and industry to Mississippi.

Justice Chandler earned bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in education from Mississippi State University, a law degree from the University of Mississippi School of Law and a Master of Laws in the Judicial Process from the University of Virginia School of Law.
